MRC Foundation Track Rider Scholarships
Riding enthusiasts looking for a leg-up into the thoroughbred riding or training industry are being called on to submit their application for the 2019 MRC Foundation Track Rider Scholarship. Previously the Female Track Rider Scholarship, the program was initiated by the MRC Foundation to combat the number of injuries sustained by female track riders in Victorian training facilities. In 2019 the scholarship is open to both men and women looking to step into the industry and pursue a career in track riding or jockeying.

Structure:

These scholarships have been designed with an overarching view to improve the safety and skills of track riders. The fully funded program, scholarship recipients undertake the Certificate III in Racing (Track Rider) at Melbourne Polytechnic’s Northern Lodge Stud in Eden Park from the February to November with a program of practical and theoretical units of study. In addition to experience and training at Melbourne Polytechnic, the scholarship also provides recipients with access to mentoring and advice from program mentor Talia Rodder, support from the networks of the Melbourne Racing Club and access to and development opportunities at Melbourne Racing Club’s racecourses, including Caulfield, Mornington and Ladbrokes Park (Sandown).

Audience:

New students enrolling in the Certificate III Racing (Trackwork Rider) in 2019.

Eligibility:

Applicants must have completed secondary school education.
